Mary Smith, President/CEO
Mary is the founder of the Rodney and Mary Barton Smith Family Foundation. Mary earned a BA from the University of Arizona in liberal arts, a master’s in urban education from Syracuse University and an MBA from Santa Clara University. She had a short career teaching and then worked for the Bank of America in commercial real estate. She enjoys studying ballroom dancing, gardening, and taking long walks. After Rodney’s sudden and untimely death, Mary decided that, in order to be happy again, she needed to commit herself to giving back and find a way to help others. She chose to start on this journey in Aroostook County Maine where she was born. She also chose to become involved with the Alzheimer’s Association because Alzheimer’s disease has deeply affected her family.

Gillian Sickler, Secretary
Gillian Sickler, the daughter of Rodney Smith and stepdaughter of Mary. She studied communications at the State University of New York at Albany and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University - and pursued a career in advertising and direct marketing - spending a decade in New York City and then subsequently Boston. After the birth of her daughter, Cato, Gillian went back to school and received a photography degree and started a new career as a professional portrait photographer. For the past 6 years, she has worked as a Realtor with Keller Williams based out of Newburyport, MA. She resides with her husband of almost 20 years, Parke, and their dog, Wojo, in both MA and Moultonborough, NH - on Lake Winnipesaukee. Interests include reading, skiing, kayaking, gardening, yoga, and paddle boarding.

Amy Stocker, MBA, Treasurer
Amy Stocker is a finance and accounting professional specializing in social enterprise, impact investing and nonprofits. She is deeply committed to the concept of community capital and creating financial systems that catalyze the growth of regenerative and sustainable businesses. She is a founder and member of the leadership team for Slow Money Monterey Bay, part of a national organization that promotes patient capital to build strong and resilient local agriculture and food chains. She is also part of the steering committee for the Startup Investment & Community Capital Expo held by CSU Monterey Bay. After obtaining her license as a Certified Public Accountant, Amy served as an audit and tax senior for Deloitte & Touche LLP and later worked as a private consultant providing financial services to the Salinas Valley agricultural industry. Amy also served as CFO for Harbinger Group LLC, a local produce company who is a pioneer of innovative products in the industry. Since 2018 Amy has acted as Finance Director for a nonprofit organization that serves homeless women on the Monterey Peninsula. She also serves on the Advisory Committee for Casa de Noche Buena, a collaborative joint venture that will operate a shelter for women and families in Seaside, California. Amy received an MBA from Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey with a specialization in Social Enterprise and Finance in 2017 and holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Deborah Roark, EdD, MBA
Deborah brings a variety of experiences and expertise to the board, given her background in banking and higher education. She relocated back to her home state of Maine in 2015 from Texas and currently serves as the Executive Director for University Advancement and External Affairs at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Deborah also works hand-in-hand with UMPI’s Board of Visitors, Alumni Board, and the University's Foundation Board, for which she also serves as the Treasurer. Debbie has more than 20 years’ experience in higher education, and has previously led Government Relations, Enrollment Management, Admissions, Sponsored Research and Advancement, and taught business courses. Prior to her career in higher education, Deborah had a banking career that spanned many years across several states. Debbie also serves on nonprofit leadership boards for Northern Light Health AR Gould Hospital, the Rotary Club of Presque Isle and BEYOND LIMITS: Awaken Your Potential. Debbie earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Maine, her MBA from the University of North Florida, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas Wesleyan University. Debbie and her husband, Jon, a retired Naval Officer of 25 years, have a daughter, Abby, who is a nurse in Fort Worth, TX. Debbie enjoys gardening, music, theater, camping and traveling.
